2021 Events

Listed below are events that ar currently scheduled to take place in 2021 which will have sweet pea and NSPS connections. Once again this year we invite you to include them in your leisure activities by making them a “day out”. Sadly all live events in 2020 were cancelled.  It is hoped that we will be able to return to live events in 2021.

2019 events were all interesting and successful and I am sure you will enjoy them in future. They are often more enjoyable when you participate in them. If you are a member your help and assistance is always welcome. If you feel you would like to be involved, please contact me and I will give you the details tomatherton1940@hotmail.co.uk 07887928777

We often require support on the day/days before the events and also at the closure. These events are our Society’s shop window to the public and we often enrol new members at them. If you already a member please support our Society by helping, or at least visiting some of them. Non-members are welcome to visit all events.

You will enjoy it!

PRESS RELEASE 15 June 2021

National Sweet Pea Society

EARLY NATIONAL SHOW 26 & 27 JULY 2021 AT MILLETS FARM ABINGDON

The National Sweet Pea Society WILL be holding its Early National on 26 & 27 June 2021 at Millets Farm, nr Abingdon (note this is a different venue from that planned in 2020 and described in the 2020 Schedule which will be used for this show as notified via the Spring Bulletin and 2021 Annual. The 2021 schedule is still available on the website via the Membership page, as is the entry form.).

As a result of the Government’s postponement of the lifting of final COVID restrictions there will be additional protocols in place to enable the show to be held. A risk assessment has been posted on the NSPS website Membership page. Key points to note are:

  • Please advise the show manager of the approximate time you will arrive to stage and when you would expect to finish (if you plan to leave and come back please advise of these times too).
  • Please advise the show manager if you will be bringing an assistant or companion (note at busy times they may be asked to vacate the marquee to comply with COVID restrictions, we hope this will not be necessary given staging times are 5pm Friday 25 June to 8.45am Saturday 26 June. JUDGING TO COMMENCE AT 9AM, which is earlier than noted in the 2020 Schedule).
  • Please do not attend the show if you have COVID symptoms or have had a positive test in the 10 days prior to the show.
  • Please take a rapid lateral flow COVID test 24 hours before attending the show (these are available free of charge from pharmacies or can be ordered – see the NHS website for more details)
  • Please bring a mask and be prepared to wear it when inside the marquee
  • Please bring hand sanitiser and use it prior to touching anything other exhibitors may touch eg vases, refreshment area etc
  • Please respect social distancing at all times, this should be 2m (note the staging tables are approx. 1.8m in length).
  • If you can please pay for your entries ahead of show day by cheque or bank transfer (post to the show manager).

Please also consult the site map which is posted on the NSPS website detailing how to access the rear of the marquee, which will be via the Fisheries as in previous years. Exhibitors may use the main carpark if they prefer and garden centre trolleys will be available but do note there is not a hardcore path to the marquee and the ground may be uneven. The location of the toilets that may be used overnight will also be posted on the website

The Annual Show which incorporates an Open Sweet Pea Show, has sadly had to be cancelled in 2021.
Those who have visited this event in the past will know that its success relies on not only many exhibitors from a wide area attending but also on large numbers of visitors to offset costs. The compact hall is usually very tightly packed. These reasons, combined with less helping hands being available this year have conspired to the decision. They hope to be back as normal in 2022.
